Staikouras on SKAI 100.3: In society the additional fiscal space that can be created

Finance Minister Christos Staikouras, speaking on SKAI 100.3 radio, pointed out that the government’s priorities are to have fiscal stability in the country in 2023.

As the execution of the budget and the dynamics of the economy evolve, it seems that an additional fiscal space can be created in the future, he emphasized today on his radio SKY 100.3, the Minister of Finance Christos Staikouras.

“If there is a fiscal space this year, it will immediately be directed to society,” said Mr. Staikouras.

He pointed out that the government’s priorities are to have fiscal stability in the country in 2023.

The Finance Minister also stated that we have a difficult period of interest rate hikes ahead of us.

“All of us, in cooperation with the banking system and the Bank of Greece, must improve our policies for the citizen” Mr. Staikouras emphasized.

“We have to limit the risks and for the banks to accept a framework (regulations) for citizens to settle their debts,” he added.

He added at the same time that one bank has already started a significant increase in returns on deposits, while others will follow.
