MPF claims that Bolsonarists who shot at the PRF in Pará acted ‘by coup d’état’

The group of Bolsonaristas that commanded blockades of the BR-163 in Novo Progresso (PA), which included shooting attacks on the PRF (Federal Highway Police), orchestrated a movement with the aim of a coup d’état; he is suspected of ten crimes, such as attempted murder; mocked institutions; and sought an “embarrassing, criminal and delusional” military intervention.

The notes are made by the MPF (Federal Public Ministry) in Pará, in the course of investigations that resulted in the outbreak of an operation by the Federal Police this Thursday (24).

The operation targeted the group that led the coup acts in Novo Progresso – a criminal association, according to the Attorney General’s Office.

The Federal Court authorized the PF to serve 10 temporary arrest warrants and 11 search and seizure warrants in the region. The prisoners are mainly businessmen from Novo Progresso, which is located in southwest Pará.

The MPF also asked for the breaking of telephone and telematic secrecy of 14 suspects of participation in the coup acts, with roles of protagonism and leadership.

The report was unable to locate the defense of the suspects.

The acts in Novo Progresso, a region with intense activity of illegal mining in indigenous lands and land grabbing, were some of the most violent since the beginning of the blockade of highways in the country.

In the city, Jair Bolsonaro (PL) obtained 83% of the valid votes in the second round, held on October 30. The president lost the election to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Bolsonaristas attacked PRF agents with shots and stones to try to prevent the unlocking of km 312 of BR-163. All the cars used by the police were damaged in the action carried out on the 7th.

The main form of action was stoning. At least three cars were perforated by bullets, according to the PRF.

Videos of the confrontation that circulated on WhatsApp, whose authenticity was confirmed by the PRF, show demonstrators attacking the vehicles with stones, sticks and shooting, celebrating the attacks and saying in a mocking tone that the police’s actions were not welcome at the scene.

The blockade was lifted the next day. The investigations carried out by the PF and MPF gathered details of what happened on the highway and identified alleged participants and leaders of the coup act.

These members of the orchestrated movement intimidated merchants in Novo Progresso and forced the closure of establishments while the roadblocks lasted, according to the MPF.

In addition, one of the protagonists of the act incited demonstrators to demolish the bridge leaving the city, according to WhatsApp messages analyzed by the Attorney General’s Office. The act resembles terrorism, according to the MPF.

Chairs, stones and other objects were thrown against PRF cars, in addition to shots from firearms.

The PF, in the investigations, stated that the way in which a specialized PRF group was attacked had never been seen in the country. The police officers attacked are from the PRF riot police, according to investigations, and the coup plotters managed to promote the momentary retreat of about 50 members of the troop.

In all, the MPF lists ten crimes under investigation: attempted qualified homicide; illegal embarrassment; damage; attack against freedom of work; attack against the safety of another means of transport; criminal association; resistance; disobedience; contempt; and violent abolition of the democratic rule of law.

There was “disgrace of public institutions”, according to the MPF, and it is necessary to use the real names to designate what happened, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office: a movement was organized and articulated to attempt a coup d’état, with acts aimed at disrespecting the result of the presidential election.

The coup act resulted in crimes against people trying to travel on the highway and in attempted murder of public agents in the exercise of their functions, according to the MPF.

The request for military intervention is “criminal and delusional”, and does not find legal support, according to the Attorney General’s Office.

This type of request is replicated by scammers in front of Army units in several Brazilian capitals, and is not rejected by the Force.

In a joint note released on the 11th, the commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force did not clearly reject the coup acts that take place in front of the barracks. They took advantage of the note for a dubious message and for indirect messages to the STF (Federal Supreme Court).
