by

Players on the Brazilian national team earn R$1.3 billion a year. Together, they generate more wealth than 4,926 municipalities whose GDP, separately, is smaller, according to the IBGE. The country has 5,570 cities.

Earnings data compiled by Sports Value based on open sources. It took into account 21 players. For the others, there is no information available, according to Amir Somoggi, director of the consultancy.

The calculation includes monthly wages, bonuses and revenue from exploiting the image of each athlete.

Only striker Neymar, whose income totals R$ 276 million per year, earns more than 36.5% of the country’s municipalities (3,536 in total).
