The rally of increases in the prices of natural gas and electricity in the international markets accelerates the reactions of the Greek government, with Kyriakos Mitsotakis announcing tomorrow, measures to alleviate households.
In his speech to Parliament during the budget debate, the prime minister is expected to announce a 16% discount on natural gas for October and November, with the measure being applied retroactively. In fact, the discount will rise to 30% for December and there will be care in the first quarter of the year. For example, a family of four living in an apartment of 100 sq.m. will have a discount of 66-90 euros based on the reduction that will apply for the two months October-November.
As far as electricity is concerned, according to information, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will announce the expansion of the subsidy on bills. At the moment there is a discount of 39-45 euros per megawatt hour. It is expected to increase, but also to expand in the first quarter of 2022, however, income and property criteria will be set so as to favor the most vulnerable households.
At the same time, special care will be taken for the farmers, as the Prime Minister announced yesterday from Brussels. It is noted that the return of the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) for diesel has already been announced to about 200,000 beneficiaries – members of agricultural cooperatives amounting to 50 million euros and in this context it is expected to expand the beneficiaries and possibly take new mitigation measures.
