INSS discloses benefit payment schedule for 2023

by

The INSS (National Social Security Institute) released the annual payment schedule for 2023 for 37 million beneficiaries in the country. Retirees, pensioners and other policyholders who receive benefits such as sick pay or BPC (Continued Provision Benefit) can now know the exact date on which their payments will be made over the next year.

The calendar is divided according to the value of the benefit: it starts first for those who earn the minimum wage, in the last week of the month. Then, in the first week of the month, the INSS starts making releases for those with income above the social security floor. The calendar is interrupted on weekends, national holidays and dates when banks are not open.

The insured must verify the benefit number (NB), which has ten digits and appears in the following format: 999.999.999-9. It is necessary to consider the penultimate digit.

Next payment for 2022 and open for Christmas and New Year

The next benefit payment, still referring to December 2022, will be made between December 23, a Friday, and January 6. Deposits for those who receive more than the floor will be made between the 2nd and 6th of January.

On December 30th, a Friday, there will be no new releases.

According to Febraban (Brazilian Federation of Banks), branches will have normal hours on Friday, December 23, before Christmas, both to serve the public and to carry out all banking operations requested by customers. On the 30th, there will be no banking hours and the branches will not open to the public.

First payment and annual adjustment

The first payment of 2023, referring to January benefits, will be made between January 25th and February 7th for those who receive the minimum wage. In the case of beneficiaries with income above the minimum wage, payment will be made between the 1st and 7th of February.

On these dates, the INSS already makes the payment with the annual readjustment. In the case of benefits above the minimum wage, the government applies the readjustment of the inflation recorded in the previous year, measured by the INPC (National Consumer Price Index). The IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) will release the result of accumulated inflation in 2022 on January 10, 2023.

Carnival stops payments

In February, the INSS stops payments during Carnival, since on February 20th and 21st, Monday and Tuesday of Carnival, bank branches are closed. According to Febraban, the agencies resume service on Ash Wednesday, the 22nd, after 12:00 pm.

Payment for the period begins on February 17, a Friday, for those who have the benefit ending in 1 and receive the floor. Afterwards, deposits are only resumed on February 23, the Thursday after Carnival. Monthly releases are completed on March 7th. Beneficiaries with income above the minimum wage will receive the money between the 1st and 7th of March.

other holidays

Payments for March will not be made on Good Friday, April 7th. Releases resume the following Monday, April 10th.

Banks will also not make new payments on May 1st, which falls on a Monday, resuming deposits on May 2nd, a Tuesday. April payroll deposits for beneficiaries above the minimum wage will also begin on Tuesday, May 2nd and will continue through May 8th.

In the August payroll, the INSS also stops deposits on September 7, which falls on a Thursday. As the All Souls holiday will also fall on a Thursday, November 2nd is another day when payments are not released.

December 25 and January 1, 2023 will fall on a Monday, dates on which there will be no payments. Another day with no new deposits is December 29th, a Friday.

The period for withdrawal of card benefits is until the end of the following month (approximately 60 days) after the release of the amount in the account.
