With Brazil’s participation in the World Cup in Qatar over, the time has come to think about Christmas shopping.
Shopping malls, supermarkets and high street stores are free to establish their own opening hours, in accordance with the collective work contracts entered into with trade unions in each region of the country. Most, however, are closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day.
THE Sheet prepared a guide with the hours of some of the main retail chains and malls, which are already beginning to extend their opening hours due to the end of year festivities. Check out:
Wholesale
At Atacadão, stores will be open on December 24th and 31st from 7 am to 6 pm. But, depending on the region, they may close earlier due to the collective work agreement.
In AssaÃ, between the 12th and 23rd, and between the 26th and 30th of December, the stores will be open from 7 am to 11 pm. On the 24th and 31st, they open at 7am and go until 5pm. On December 25th and January 1st, all stores will be closed.
supermarkets
According to Abras (Brazilian Association of Supermarkets), each chain is free to choose its opening hours.
In Rio, the 26 units of Supermercados Guanabara will be open from 7:30 am to 6 pm on the 24th. On the 25th, all stores will be closed.
street retail
The largest Casas Bahia store, located on Marginal Tietê, in the north of São Paulo, will be open until 11 pm from December 20th to 22nd and on December 23rd it will be open until midnight.
malls
The more than 30 malls of Aliansce Sonae –Santana Parque Shopping (SP), Shopping Leblon (RJ), Boulevard Shopping Belo Horizonte (MG), among others– will work with extended hours on December 23: from 9am to 10pm or from 10am at 11 pm.
On the 24th, the ventures work with hours that vary from 10 am to 7 pm or from 9 am to 6 pm.
On the 25th, the operation varies according to the city: some malls are closed and others open from 12h.
Botafogo Praia Shopping (RJ)
Between December 19th and 23rd, the hours are from 10 am to 11 pm. On the 24th, from 9 am to 6 pm.
Boulevard (RJ)
Between the 19th and 23rd, from 10am to 11pm.
On the 24th from 9am to 6pm and on the 31st from 10am to 4pm.
On the 25th and 1st, closed stores and optional food court.
Between December 26th and 30th, normal operation, from 10 am to 10 pm.
North Center (SP)
Between the 15th and 23rd of December, the stores will be open from 10 am to 11 pm.
On the 24th, opening hours will be from 10am to 6pm, and on the 31st, from 10am to 4pm. On the 25th and 1st, the operation of the stores and food court will be optional.
Between the 26th and 30th of December, the stores will be open at normal hours, from 10 am to 10 pm.
Eldorado (SP)
The stores start operating with extended hours on Sundays, December 11th and 18th: from 10am to 10pm.
Between the 16th and the 23rd (except Sunday), the hours will be from 10am to 11pm.
On the 24th, the stores are open from 10am to 5pm and, on the 31st, from 10am to 4pm. On December 25th and January 1st, the opening is optional.
In the week between Christmas and New Year (between December 26th and 30th), stores operate at normal hours, from 10am to 10pm.
Golden Square Shopping (SP)
Between December 16th and 22nd, the mall is open from 10am to 11pm. On Sunday (18), from 12h to 22h. Opening hours on the 23rd are from 10 am to midnight.
On December 24th, the hours are from 10 am to 6 pm, and on the 31st, from 10 am to 4 pm.
The operation on the 25th and 1st is optional.
Iguatemi BrasÃlia (DF)
Between December 15th and 23rd, the hours will be from 10 am to 11 pm. On Sunday (18), from 10am to 10pm.
On the 24th, the mall is open from 10am to 6pm and, on the 31st, from 10am to 4pm.
On the 25th and 1st of January, the stores will be closed.
South Garden (SP)
From the 16th to the 23rd of December, from 10 am to 11 pm.
On the 24th of December, the stores are open from 9am to 6pm and, on the 31st, from 10am to 4pm. The operation on the 25th and 1st is optional.
On Christmas Eve (24), the hours are from 9 am to 6 pm, and on New Year’s Eve, from 10 am to 4 pm.
Madureira Shopping (RJ)
The venture will operate on the 17th and from the 19th to the 23rd of December from 9 am to 11 pm.
On Sunday (18), from 13:00 to 21:00.
On the 24th, opening hours are from 9am to 6pm, and on the 31st, from 10am to 4pm.
On the 25th and 1st, the stores will be closed and the operation of the food court is optional.
Between the 26th and the 30th, the operation will be normal, from 10am to 10pm.
Market Place (SP)
Between December 15th and 23rd, the hours will be from 10 am to 11 pm. On Sunday (18), from 10am to 10pm.
On the 24th, the mall is open from 10am to 6pm and, on the 31st, from 10am to 4pm.
On the 25th and 1st, stores and the food court have optional service.
Between the 26th and the 30th, the hours are normal, from 10am to 10pm.
Itaquera Metro (SP)
From the 15th to the 17th of December, and from the 19th to the 22nd of December, the stores are open from 10 am to 11 pm. On Sunday the 18th from 2pm to 8pm.
On the 23rd of December, from 10 am to midnight. And on the 24th, from 9am to 6pm. On the 31st, from 10 am to 6 pm.
On the 25th and 1st, attendance is optional.
Mooca Plaza Shopping (SP)
Extended hours start on the 17th, from 10am to 11pm. On Sunday, the 18th, it is from 11:00 to 21:00.
Between December 19th and 22nd, opening hours from 10 am to 11 pm. On Friday the 23rd, from 10 am to midnight. On Saturday, the 24th, from 10 am to 6 pm.
On December 25th, stores will be closed and the opening of the food court is optional.
Between December 26th and 30th, normal hours, from 10 am to 10 pm.
NorteShopping (RJ)
Between the 16th and 17th of December, the hours are from 10 am to 11 pm. On Sunday the 18th, the shops are open from 1pm to 10pm.
Between the 19th and the 23rd, from 10 am to 11 pm.
On the 24th, it will be open from 9am to 6pm, and on the 31st from 10am to 4pm.
Christmas and New Year days with stores closed and the food court with optional service.
Nova Iguacu (RJ)
On December 16th, 17th and 19th to 22nd, the hours will be from 10am to 11pm.
On Sunday (18), the hours are from 12:00 to 22:00. On the 23rd, from 9 am to 11 pm.
On Christmas Eve (24th), the hours will be from 9am to 6pm, and on New Year’s Eve (31st), from 10am to 4pm.
On the 25th and 31st, stores will be closed and the food court will be optional.
Parque das Bandeiras (SP)
Shops open from 10am to 11pm between 16th and 22nd December. On the 23rd, stores open from 10 am to midnight.
On the 24th, the mall is open from 9am to 6pm and, on the 31st, from 10am to 3pm.
The operation on the 25th and 1st is optional.
Patio Paulista (SP)
Between December 21st and 23rd, the mall opens from 10am to 11pm. And, on the 24th, from 10 am to 6 pm.
Santa Cruz (SP)
On the 23rd, the hours will be from 9am to 10pm.
On Christmas Eve, the 24th, from 9 am to 6 pm, and on the 31st, from 9 am to 4 pm.
On Christmas Day (25th) and New Year’s Day (1st), the opening of stores is optional.
Sao Bernardo Plaza Shopping (SP)
Between December 16th and 23rd, stores open from 10am to 11pm. With the exception of Sunday the 18th, when the hours are from 10 am to 10 pm.
On the 24th, it is open from 9am to 6pm, and on the 31st, from 10am to 4pm. On the 25th and 31st, the opening is optional.
Between the 26th and 30th of December, normal hours, from 10 am to 10 pm.
Shopping Nova America (RJ)
Between the 16th and the 23rd, the mall is open from 10am to 11pm.
On the 24th from 9am to 6pm and on the 31st from 10am to 4pm.
On the 25th and 1st, stores are closed and service at the food court is optional.
Tamboré (SP)
The extended opening hours start on the 10th, from 10am to 11pm, and continue the same between the 12th and 20th of December.
On Sundays, December 11th and 18th, the stores are open from 12:00 to 22:00.
A special scheme is prepared for the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of December, open from 10 am to midnight.
On the 24th, opening hours will be from 10am to 6pm, and on the 31st, from 10am to 4pm.
On Christmas Day (25th) and New Year’s Day (1st), the opening of stores will be optional.
Between the 26th and the 30th, normal hours, from 10 am to 10 pm.
Tijuca (RJ)
The mall works between December 16th and 23rd from 10am to 11pm.
On Sunday the 18th, it is open from 10am to 10pm.
On December 24th, stores are open from 9 am to 6 pm, and on the 31st from 10 am to 4 pm.
On Christmas and New Year’s Day, stores are closed.
Villa Lobos (SP)
Extended hours begin on the 17th, with stores open from 10 am to 11 pm. On Sunday, the 18th, the hours will be from 11:00 to 21:00.
But on the 19th and 20th, the mall opens at normal hours (10am to 10pm). On the 21st, 22nd and 23rd, it resumes operating at extended hours, from 10am to 11pm.
On the 24th of December, it opens from 10am to 6pm, and on the 31st from 10am to 4pm. On Christmas and New Year’s Day, opening is optional.
