At the same time, Mr. Hatzidakis noted that the Ministry of Labor & Social Affairs implements other initiatives and, in this way, implements a social policy with a footprint, a social policy in practice.

“The program “Housing and Work for the Homeless” is a program with the greatest emotional value, because it concerns homeless people, our fellow citizens who for one reason or another reached a dead end and, finally, became homeless and are asking for support from the State, to make a restart in their lives” said the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis, during an event announcing the program, in the presence of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

As he said, this is an innovative program for the Greek data, as it combines the provision of housing and free household equipment with job opportunities. “This is the added value of the program, which gives substantial hope in the lives of these people,” said the Minister of Labor.

At the same time, Mr. Hatzidakis noted that the Ministry of Labor & Social Affairs implements other initiatives and, in this way, implements a social policy with a footprint, a social policy in practice.

In particular, the Minister of Labor listed only some of these actions, such as, for example:

“- The housing allowance for uninsured seniors to ensure a decent living for the most vulnerable in life.

– The doubling of the accommodation allowance for the students of 50 Vocational Apprenticeship Schools of the Public Employment Service, with at least 1,000 beneficiaries.

– The housing benefit of the Organization of Welfare Benefits and Social Solidarity (OPEKA) to households that rent their main residence, with resources of almost 400 million euros and 280,000 beneficiaries.

– The Affordable Housing program, with which we will provide affordable housing, through the renovation of 70 apartments in the municipality of Athens and 30 apartments in the municipality of Thessaloniki, with resources from the Recovery Fund.

Concluding his presentation, Mr. Hatzidakis also referred to the new “My Home” draft law for the provision of affordable and quality housing to 137,000 young people, young couples and vulnerable citizens (in the first phase).

“This is a major government initiative, with which we are restarting the housing policy, as, for more than 10 years, there was essentially no housing policy. It is a holistic government intervention” noted the Minister of Labor and focused on some actions, such as, among others, the “Coverage” program and low-interest loans for young people and young couples.
