The new toll tariffs began to take effect at 00:00 am this Friday (16) on highways in the state of São Paulo. After the decision to freeze prices during the election period, the adjustments were authorized by Artesp (Transport Agency of the State of São Paulo) last Wednesday (14). In the case of the busiest highways, the increase will be 11.73%.
In the Anchieta-Imigrantes system, those who leave the capital towards the south coast of São Paulo start paying R$ 33.80. The previous rate was R$ 30.20.
On the Rodoanel, the West Section toll goes from R$2.50 to R$2.80. In the East Section, the value goes from R$ 2.90 to R$ 3.30, while in the South Section, it goes from R$ 3.90 to R$ 4.30.
On the Anhanguera-Bandeirantes system, the values vary according to the toll plaza. The lowest fares are in the Limeira squares, on both highways, which went from R$7 to R$7.80. The highest values are charged when passing through Perus, on Anhanguera, and through Caieiras and Campo Limpo, on Bandeirantes, which now charge R$ 11.80 for passenger vehicles, compared to the previous rate of R$ 10.60.

Other important roads will also have new values in their tolls starting this Friday. Castelo Branco now has fares between R$5.40 and R$14.60, on the stretches managed by ViaOeste, which has its last plaza at Km 74, in Itu. Previously, the values varied between R$ 4.90 and R$ 13.
In the stretch managed by the Colina concessionaire, with tolls at km 111, in Boituva, the toll goes from R$ 10.80 to R$ 12.
Finally, in the squares on the stretch managed by SPVias, fares are now R$11.30 at km 278, in Iaras, compared to the previous price of R$10.10, and R$16.80 at the booths that they are at km 158 and 208, in the regions of Quadra and Itatinga, compared to the R$ 15 charged until Thursday.
In total, 18 concessionaires were authorized by Artesp to readjust their tolls, after the government of São Paulo postponed the increases that should have occurred in July, before the election, when Governor Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB) ran for re-election. The last adjustment was made exactly in July 2021.
To make it possible to postpone the increase for users, the government of São Paulo arranged bimonthly financial compensation with the companies that manage the highways. According to Artesp, between July 1st and October 15th, losses of R$ 410 million caused by the postponement were recorded.
At the time of the freeze announcement, the concessionaires even threatened to go to court if there was no compensation and the government set aside R$400 million to pay for the freeze.
In a note, Arteris Intervias, which manages some highways in the interior of São Paulo, including an 82 km stretch on Anhanguera, between Limeira and Santa Rita do Passa Quatro, states that since 2000, it has invested R$ 4.9 billion (in updated values up to August 2022) in improvements to the roads it manages, with 63.3 km of duplicated roads and 120 km of additional lanes.
