Negotiations for the approval of the PEC continue even after Gilmar’s decision, says Haddad

The future Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT), said this Monday (19) that the negotiation of the elected government Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) with the National Congress for the approval of the PEC (proposed amendment to the Constitution) of Transition continues, despite the decision of Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the STF (Federal Supreme Court), that Bolsa Família can remain outside the spending ceiling.

“The negotiation remains, it is important for the country to bet on good politics, on negotiation, on institutionality for us to give strength to the economic policy that will be announced and that will appease spirits and show that Brazil will be on the right path to from the 1st of January,” he said.

“As far as I am concerned, we are going to continue at the table discussing what is best for the country. This gives comfort to Bolsa Família beneficiaries, it is not because of a disagreement in the National Congress that they will be helpless, it is very important to give comfort to the families and there will be no damage to the program”, he continued. Auxílio Brasil will be renamed Bolsa Família in the future government.

On Sunday night (18), the Minister of the STF decided that the maintenance of the Brazil Aid next year could occur by opening extraordinary credit and that these expenses are not included in the limits of the spending ceiling.

Faced with the impasse that has dragged on with Congress in recent weeks for the approval of the Spending PEC that would resolve the issue, some PT members had the assessment that the elected government should activate the alternatives. Authorization for extraordinary credit is one of them.

According to Haddad, the PEC remains Plan A of the Lula government. “I always play on plan A, which is the plan that gives strength, indicates a path, we are going to take measures right at the beginning of the year to solve the gap that was inherited from this government”, he said.

“We will persevere on the path of institutionalism and good politics,” he added.

In a social network, the national president of the PT, Gleisi Hoffmann (PT-PR), stated that the priority of the Lula government is still the PEC.

“We want the Bolsa Família PEC, it is important, because it brings other solutions and privileges politics, parliament, to solve problems. But if the Chamber is not able to vote, the decision of Minister Gilmar, who withdraws the Bolsa Spending ceiling family will not let the poor people down,” he wrote.
