Mr. Kikilias spoke about the restoration of Greek tourism, which he said will achieve revenues of 3 billion euros
The political leadership of the Ministry of Tourism mentioned the “Great Return of Greek Tourism” in this year’s tourist season, from the stage of the event for Greek tourism, which took place in Athens, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
At the event, organized by the Ministry of Tourism and entitled “The Great Return of Greek Tourism“, the responsible minister, Vassilis Kikilias, underlined that the government and the actions it undertook for the opening of Greek tourism in 2020, but also later with the digital certificate, kept Greek tourism standing.
Specifically for 2022, Mr. Kikilias talked about the restoration of Greek tourism, which he said will achieve revenues of 3 billion euros more than the budget target, in the midst of a very difficult year.
Specifically, revenues are expected to reach 18 billion euros at the end of 2022.
Explaining how this year’s result was achieved, Mr. Kikilias underlined, among other things, that there was a strategic plan focused on stimulating the incoming tourist stream from international markets.
A typical example is the US market, where every week 63 flights were destined for Eleftherios Venizelos.
At the same time, the country’s extensive promotion program throughout the year has paid off and is paying off, Mr. Kikilias said.
In any case, he reiterated that the goal of extending the tourist season is being achieved. In fact, in support of this, he announced that from November to March the EOT will run a co-advertising program with airlines, in order for them to land at Greek airports.
On the same wavelength, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Sofia Zacharakis, spoke of another year with multiple crises, but which Greek tourism managed.
It is typical that this year air arrivals exceeded those of 2019, while record arrivals were achieved from the main markets of Greece (Germany-Great Britain) and at the same time the per capita expenditure per visitor increased.
Referring to the challenges of the future, Mrs. Zaharaki noted that the actions of the ministry will focus on the tripartite, quality, balance, sustainability and the strengthening of alternative forms of tourism.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism made a special reference to the importance of education in the direction of the modernization of the tourism product, pointing out that the major goal is the establishment of a Tourism Academy.
