The mechanism through which the wholesale prices are calculated each month reminds the Ministry of Energystressing that Greece is cheaper even than countries with nuclear power, such as France.
The Ministry of Energy adds that the government will insist on maintaining energy prices at affordable levels for households, businesses and farmers, as long as the crisis lasts.
In more detail, the Ministry of Energy states:
On the occasion of publications regarding the wholesale purchase price of natural gas, it is appropriate to repeat that it is derived from the average of each month. In the diagrams below it is clear that for December we are cheaper even than countries with nuclear energy, such as France or countries with organized markets, such as Great Britain, Italy, etc. Therefore, invoking the price of a selected period does not serve the truth nor informing the citizens, but other kinds of pursuits. It must also be taken into account that our country buys natural gas at the prices of the immediately previous month and its price fluctuations should be looked for in order to form a realistic picture. Finally, it is reminded once again that the Government’s decision to maintain retail energy prices at affordable levels for households, professionals and farmers is absolutely valid for as long as the crisis lasts.
