New rules for Pix started to apply this Monday (2). The main changes are in the transfer value limits and in the modalities of Pix Loot and Pix Troco.

What changes:

  • Financial institutions are no longer required to impose an amount limit per transaction. The limits per day and night period, however, remain. In practice, the customer will be able to make a single transaction in the amount of his daily limit.
  • The night period, in which Pix transfers are capped at R$ 1000 – unless the customer changes it – now starts at 10 pm, no longer at 8 pm, and runs until 6 am the following day.
  • In Pix Saque and Pix Troco, the daytime limit passed to BRL 3,000 and the night for BRL 1,000. These tools allow the customer to receive an amount transferred by Pix in kind.

What’s to come:

  • Auto Pix: the automatic debit function to facilitate the payment of periodic bills, such as electricity and water bills, may arrive later this year.
  • Enhanced security: the idea is to make it difficult for criminals to move money from victims of scams and robberies. To avoid spreading the balance across different accounts, the BC plans to adopt two new barriers. Find out more details here.
  • real digital: the laboratory that studies the development of the BC’s digital currency started in September. Nine projects were selected for different applications of the digital real.

Squid 3 starts with Bag on the ground

The first trading session of the Brazilian Stock Exchange after the beginning of the third term of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was marked by investors’ bad mood.

On a day without trading outside, the downward trend was reinforced with the absence of the flow of foreign investors, more optimistic with the new government than the locals, according to analysts.

In numbers: the Ibovespa closed sharply from 3.06%to the 106,376 points, while the dollar rose 1.47%a BRL 5.35. Highlight for the fall of shares of state-owned companies, such as Petrobras (-6.45%) and Banco do Brasil (-4.23%).

Which explains:

  • Haddad ‘defeat’: the MP that extended the fuel exemption was perceived by investors as a lack of political support for the Minister of Finance, who had said in a recent interview that he would not renew the end of taxes on these items.

– At the time, Haddad’s speech came to encourage the market, but the MP reinforces the fear of lack of control of the Brazilian debt to the government committing to another type of spending.

In his inaugural addressthis Monday (2nd), the minister sought to convey a message of responsibility with public accounts, combating inflation and prioritizing social issues.

  • He reaffirmed his commitment to submit a proposal for a new fiscal framework to Congress by mid-year, replacing the spending ceiling.

$200 billion less

Billionaire Elon Musk becomes the first person in the world to see his wealth melt away $200 billionaccording to the Bloomberg agency.

In numbers: the billionaire’s fortune reached $341 billion in November 2021, but the sharp decline in Tesla’s shares in 2022 made the South African’s equity reach the end of the year in $137 billion.

  • In December, the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter lost the title of richest person in the world to Frenchman Bernard Arnault, from the holding company LVMH.

Which explains: Tesla shares have accumulated a drop of 68% in 2022, penalized by the Fed’s aggressive monetary tightening, which hit high-growth companies like the automaker more, and also influenced by the purchase of Twitter.

  • Investors have raised questions about the billionaire’s commitment to Tesla after he acquired the social network for $44 billion.

The billionaire sold so many Tesla shares ($23 billion) during the process of buying the network, that today its space startup SpaceX –valued at US$ 125 billion– represents a larger slice of its equity than the assembler, according to Bloomberg.

this mondaythe automaker confirmed the market’s expectations by not reaching its daring vehicle production target for 2022.

  • Affected by weak demand and production difficulties in China, Tesla delivered 1.31 million of vehicles last year, up nearly 40% year-on-year, but below the target of 50% or more.
