Qatargate: The decision on the extradition of Antonio Pantzeri’s daughter was postponed until January 16

by

The adjournment is due to the fact that the necessary evidence did not arrive in time about alleged overcrowding in Belgian prisons, which the defense lawyer had invoked to prevent his client from being extradited.

The Brescia court postponed until January 16 the decision on whether or not to extradite to Belgium the daughter of Pier Antonio Pantcheri, Silvia Pantcheri.

The adjournment is due to the fact that the necessary evidence did not arrive in time about alleged overcrowding in Belgian prisons, which the defense lawyer had invoked to prevent his client from being extradited.

In December, Belgian authorities accused four people linked to the European Parliament that Qatar, the host country for the World Cup, offered them cash and gifts to influence decision-making.

Qatar denies any wrongdoing.

The suspects are Italian former MEP Pier Antonio Panzeri, Greek MEP Eva Kaili, Panzeri’s former assistant and European Parliament staff member Francesco Giorgi and Italian non-governmental organization director Niccolò Figa-Talamanga.
