Uber Moto, a motorcycle taxi service announced by Uber this Thursday (5) for the capitals of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, has already become the target of alerts from motoboys, who point out problems in the safety conditions offered to workers.
According to the president of SindimotoSP (São Paulo motorcyclists’ union), Gilberto Almeida dos Santos, the company wants to “put the entire cost of the profession in the worker’s pocket”. He says that motorcyclists themselves will have to equip their vehicles with mandatory safety items, in addition to offering helmets and disposable caps to passengers.
“Regulation is necessary so that the professional has their labor rights preserved and companies are socially responsible for workers who register on their platform”, says the union in a statement.
Sought by Panel SA, Uber states that “a series of security features are offered by the Uber platform in all trips, such as personal accident insurance for both users and partners”.
It also stated that “it has educational videos developed in partnership with road safety experts, in addition to a podcast for users and motorcyclists who use Uber Moto”.
The City of São Paulo says that it already provides notification from Uber and that, at the request of Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), the CMUV (Municipal Road Use Committee) must contact the company for the immediate suspension of activity.
In the capital of São Paulo, Uber Moto relies on a state court injunction to operate, but the service is not regulated. City hall says it was not informed by the company about the offer of motorcycle taxis.
