This week, the BNDES began changes in its directorates after the appointment of Aloizio Mercadante to the presidency of the development bank.
Gustavo Montezano, president, and two directors —Bruno Laskowsky, who worked in the equity and capital markets area, and Fábio Abrahão, who headed the concessions and infrastructure department— left the bank before Mercadante became official in charge of the institution.
Two other directors, who are not career employees of the bank, continue to occupy their positions despite the change in government. Lourenço Tigre remains in the position of financial director, and Claudemir Brito continues as director of the governance area.
With the departure of Montezano, director of productive and socio-environmental credit Bruno Aranha took over as interim president of the bank, the institution said. Three other career directors, in addition to Aranha, also maintain their positions.
Mercadante was announced by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in mid-December to head the BNDES. In the same month, Mercadante announced that he will carry out a broad overhaul of the BNDES leadership, including people from the capital market and former members of past PT governments.
There is still no date on when all the changes in the BNDES will take effect. Mercadante appointed Alexandre Abreu, former president of Banco Original, as financial director, and Nelson Barbosa as planning director. Meanwhile, the capital markets directorate will be occupied by Natalia Dias, president of Standard Bank Brasil.
