The aim of the action, lasting 12 months, is to promote the self-employment of 101 unemployed Roma, aged 20 to 44, through the creation of sustainable businesses in the Attica Region.

The deadline for submitting applications is February 20, 2023 at 3:00 p.m.

The grant amounts to 14,800 euros and is paid in three installments as follows:

– 1st installment of 4,000 euros, after the start of activity at DOU.

The program, with a total budget of 1,500,000 euros, is co-financed by the Greek State and the European Social Fund-Youth Employment Initiative, within the Operational Program “Human Resource Development, Education and Lifelong Learning 2014-2020”.

The process, methodology and application evaluation criteria are described in detail in the Public Call. For more information, those interested can visit the address: https://www.dypa.gov.gr/proghrammata-anoikhta.

The General Secretary for Social Solidarity and Combating Poverty, Georgios Stamatis, said: “The issues of equal opportunities for the inclusion of Roma in work are a key priority in the context of the new National Strategy for the Social Inclusion of Roma (ESKE) 2021-2030. Undoubtedly, the Roma face particular problems in accessing work, due to the lack of basic professional skills and qualifications, as well as stereotypes in the search for employment. For the most part, they are confined to informal and seasonal occupations and declining traditional occupations. Through this emblematic project, starting from the Region of Attica, but also with other forthcoming targeted actions, with the implementation body DYPA, we are focusing our efforts for the first time on combating the various obstacles that keep the Roma away from opportunities to enhance employability and trapped in the vicious cycle of multiple deprivation, intergenerational poverty and social exclusion. Our goal is to give meaningful opportunities to young Roma to join the formal labor market and start their own business, creating the conditions for improving their standard of living and their full and equal social inclusion.”

For her part, the deputy director of the DYPA, Gianna Hormova, underlined: “The Public Employment Service attaches particular importance to the service and equal treatment of special and vulnerable social groups. The creation of new service offices is part of these actions. With the new grant program, announced today, in the Region of Attica we are actively helping to reduce unemployment and the absorption of Roma in the labor market. In the near future, similar programs will follow for the rest of the Regions of the country”.
