For a historic milestone in the issuance of pensions, EFKA makes a statement in its announcement, noting that more than 500,000 main pensions were issued by its services in the last 24 months, while almost 300,000 of them were issued in the last 12 months alone.

In detail, the issuance of main pensions in 2021 and 2022 reached 510,500. In 2021, 224,434 main pensions were issued, while in 2022, 287,000 were issued (an increase of 28%). In fact, in 2022 163,000 more pensions were issued compared to 2019 where only 123,324 were issued (132% increase).

In November 2022, pension issuances exceeded 27,000, 10,000 more than in the corresponding month of 2021 (a 60% increase), demonstrating that EFKA’s services keep the rate of awards at a consistently high level. Correspondingly in the month of December the awards amounted to approximately 22,000.

On the arrears front, 2021 principal pensions due have been capped at around 7,500 (9,500 were in the month of November). These are mainly complex pension cases with unsettled debts, pending in court, with the absence of a medical opinion or applications for which no pension right is established.

In addition, the clearance rate of pension applications submitted within 2022 has reached 86% with the vast majority of pending applications relating to the third quarter of the year.

Finally, in terms of new pension applications, 2022 closed at the same high levels as 2021 as 212,500 new applications were submitted, while 212,151 applications were submitted in 2021.

The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis, emphasized that “in the 24 months that I have been at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, we implemented a series of policies and put modern management tools into operation in order to definitively end the problem of pending main pensions. And we succeeded, as evidenced by the official figures of EFKA. Half a million pensions were issued in 24 months, a record number in the history of the country’s insurance funds. And even with 900 fewer employees. And in spite of the fact of the particularly increased pension applications where they amounted to 425,000 in the last two years, we were able not only to clear the stock that had accumulated in previous years but also to reduce the awarding times of new pensions to an average of 2 months, a performance that is better than that of some advanced countries. We are not complacent and are proceeding with clearing the balances as well as expeditiously dealing with the stock of overdue auxiliaries. EFKA now “produces” pensions and not delays”.

The commander of EFKA Panagiotis Doufexis noted that “with system, perseverance and hard work, EFKA’s services managed to complete our planning for the mass liquidation of overdue main pensions, ensuring that “mountains” of outstanding pensions will not appear again in the future. A perennial problem of the Public Administration is solved for the benefit of the insured”.
