Government announces proportional INSS readjustments; see table

by

Retirements, pensions and benefits from the INSS (National Social Security Institute) will be paid with readjustment from January 25th. The calendar starts with benefits worth one minimum wage (R$ 1,302) this year.

For benefits above the floor, the correction was calculated based on the INPC (National Consumer Price Index) closed in 2022, of 5.93%. The information was published in an interministerial ordinance in the Official Gazette of this Wednesday (11).

This readjustment, however, will not be applied to all beneficiaries. Those who started receiving INSS payments in February last year will have the correction proportional to the accumulated inflation from the month of beginning of the benefit until December.

For those who retired in February with a benefit above the minimum, for example, the correction is 5.23%. Those who became beneficiaries in December will have a 0.69% readjustment.

As for beneficiaries who received the minimum wage of BRL 1,212 last year, the INSS income rises to BRL 1,302, regardless of the date on which the benefit was granted. This value may still change, if the federal government officializes the R$ 1,320 approved by Congress as a floor.

When calculating how much you will receive per month in the account, retirees and pensioners should consider that the readjusted values will also be deducted from the IR (Income Tax).

Without updating since 2015, the Tax table increases the Lion’s bite on benefits that are at the limit of a higher contribution range upwards.

Those who receive up to R$ 1,903.99 do not pay the tax and retirees and pensioners who are over 65 years of age have an advantage: regardless of income, the Federal Revenue exempts a portion of R$ 1,903.99 from the benefit from the collection.

The ordinance also confirmed the new INSS ceiling, also corrected by the INPC. In 2023, the maximum amount paid in social security benefits increases from BRL 7,087.22 to BRL 7,507.49.

Law 8213, of 1991, establishes that the amount of benefits paid by the INSS will be readjusted annually based on the INPC (National Consumer Price Index), which measures the impact of price changes for families with incomes between one and five minimum wages.

Other benefits

For the BPC (Benefit of Continuous Provision of the Organic Law of Social Assistance), intended for the elderly and people with disabilities in situations of extreme poverty, the ordinance determined that the lifetime monthly income and special pensions for dependents of victims of hemodialysis in the city from Caruaru (PE) are also R$ 1,302.

The benefit paid to rubber tappers and their dependents, based on Law nº 7,986/89, now amounts to R$ 2,604. The family allowance quota is now R$ 59.82, for the insured with monthly earnings not exceeding R$ 1,754.18.
