Lula says it is necessary that ‘rich people pay more taxes’

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Wednesday (12) that it is necessary to make changes in the country’s tax collection so that the rich pay more and the poor less.

“Everyone knows that a new tax policy needs to be implemented, it is necessary to make the richest people pay more taxes than the poor, because today the poor pay comparatively more taxes than the rich,” he said over breakfast with journalists.

The Chief Executive, however, did not give details of the changes he intends to propose in the Union’s tax policy.

He also harshly criticized the financial market and Febraban (Brazilian Federation of Banks).

“I’ve never seen Febraban get together and say it’s worried about taking part of the interest it receives to dedicate it to helping Father Julio Lancellotti take care of the homeless person”, he said.

The president said that the market created a narrative that funds destined for improvements in health, education and other areas are treated as a government expense, while the payment of interest rates does not have the same treatment.

“Sometimes I get very, very angry and I apologize to people I get angry with because it’s the following: the market has no heart, no sensitivity, no humanism,” he said.

Lula received, for the first time, journalists this morning. But, at the end of the meeting, only five vehicles were able to ask, and the Sheet was not part of the group.
