Digital Government Transactions Continue to Grow – Over 1.2 Billion in 2022

by

It is noted that this year the so-called digital “financial” transactions are separately included in the digital transactions.

A new large increase was recorded in digital transactions with the State for 2022, according to the data of the General Secretariat of Public Administration Information Systems of the Ministry of Digital Governance.

Specifically, from January 1 to December 31 of last year, Government systems either provided digital services to citizens, or “talked to each other” 772,128,757 times, recording an increase of more than 35% compared to 2021.

In particular, the digital transactions of previous years amount to:

8.8 million in 2018
34 million in 2019
94 million in 2020
567 million in 2021

It is recalled that digital transactions include: digital services, i.e. the identification of citizens in an information system using Taxisnet or web banking codes, and interoperability, i.e. the exchange of information between services and State registers without any other action than on the part of the citizen beyond the granting of his consent.

It is noted that this year the so-called digital “financial” transactions are separately included in the digital transactions.

These are cases where the citizen has access to digital services in the financial sector outside of the oAuth 2.0 standard (tax, customs, related etc.).

The specific transactions are now recorded in more detail for the more accurate monitoring of the digital transformation of our country, after the upgrade of the infrastructure and computing tools of the General Secretariat of Public Administration Information Systems, which makes their accurate calculation technically easy, and they were measured at 455 million in 2022.

Thus, for the first time, digital transactions exceeded one billion.

Digital transactions in detail per year:

The Minister of State and Digital Governance Kyriakos Pierrakakis stated: “The increase in digital transactions with the Government from 2021 to 2022 comes in addition to the large increase recorded in recent years.

And, above all, it confirms the continuous digital progress of the country since the establishment of the Ministry of Digital Governance. Every digital transaction is a queue that didn’t happen. Thus, it is estimated that in 2022 each citizen on average avoided more than 100 queues. This is the imprint of the digital transformation in the everyday life of citizens.

This is the practical implementation of the vision of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for a modern, digital, citizen-friendly state».

The General Secretary of Public Administration Information Systems Demosthenes Anagnostopoulos stated: “For another year we have a significant increase in digital transactions with the State, with distinct categorization for more accurate monitoring of the country’s digital transformation. With the benefit of saving time, costs and energy for citizens, a significant reduction in unnecessary paperwork and saving resources for the Administration. By implementing the strategy of the Ministry of Digital Governance, we have already made and will continue to make every aspect of the interaction of citizens and businesses with the Government easier».
