Panel SA: After the Americanas case, Moro defends more rigor against creative accounting

by

After the revelation of the R$20 billion accounting scandal on Americanas’ balance sheet, Senator-elect Sergio Moro asked for more rigor against “creative accounting”.

In a message posted on a social network, Moro said that “the BRL 20 billion shortfall in Americanas calls for improvement in the laws on the stock market, with greater rigor against ‘creative accounting'”.

According to him, the measure would protect investors and shareholders of all sizes.

“Instituting reward programs for good whistleblowers would be a positive thing,” he wrote.

The scandal involving the company, which is one of the largest retail groups in the country, led Sergio Rial, former president of Americanas, to announce his departure from the company.
