(Reuters) – Hermès announced on Tuesday the appointment of Grace Wales Bonner as artistic director of the Men’s line.
She will replace Véronique Nichanian whose departure was announced a few days ago.
Grace Wales Bonner, 35, who will present her first collection for the brand in January 2027, is part of a new generation taking the creative reins at some of the biggest names in fashion, including Chanel, Dior, owned by LVMH, and Gucci, which is owned by Kering.
Grappling with a two-year crisis, the sector has carried out a series of reshuffles within its artistic direction teams, with a record number of creators notably making their debut during the last season.
Hermès was until now an exception in this area and had retained its creative team over the decades, with artistic directors such as Véronique Nichanian, 71, and jewelry and shoe designer Pierre Hardy, 69.
Grace Wales Bonner, whose name has been circulating in recent months in speculation surrounding high-profile fashion vacancies, graduated from Central Saint Martins and won several menswear design awards.
