Brazil opens 324,000 formal vacancies in November, 13% less than a year ago

by

The country registered the creation of 324.1 thousand formal jobs in November, according to data released this Thursday (23) by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. The balance is 13% lower than that registered a year ago.

The balance results from the difference between 1.7 million hires and 1.4 million dismissals, according to the Caged (General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons).

The creation of vacancies was driven by the service sector, which opened 180,900 vacancies after the reopening of activities and amid the advance of vaccination.

After services, the biggest contractor was commerce (139.2 thousand vacancies), followed by construction (12.4 thousand) and industry (8.1 thousand). Agriculture was the only one that registered closure (of 16,700 jobs).

Caged data has undergone significant changes between the release of numbers each month and subsequent adjustments with information delivered by companies after the deadline.

The difference made the year 2020, which initially registered the creation of 142.6 thousand vacancies, to appear after a review with a closing of 191.5 thousand vacancies.

The formal job market has created fewer vacancies than originally disclosed by the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government each month also in 2021.

Survey of leaf showed that, from January to October, the updated result of Caged points to 166 thousand fewer jobs created than previously registered.

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, adjustments have been made because of the incorporation of data delivered by companies after the deadline.

The update is traditional in Caged and took place even before the Bolsonaro government, but it was intensified both by the companies’ difficulty in adapting to a change in the methodology in collecting the numbers and by the difficulties imposed by the pandemic.
