Nikos Thomaidis, Professor of Analytical Chemistry at EKPA, spoke to SKAI about the increasing trend of cases, the Omicron operation and the new measures.
Mr. Thomaidis said that according to data from other countries, the increase in cases will be rapid. However, the results of this week’s analyzes in our country are also expected, so that the experts have a clearer picture.
“Currently, the viral load in the sewage of Attica seems to be at quite high levels, with 2,000-2,300 cases per day. “We had seen such levels at the peak of November and in July, in the previous wave”, he pointed out and estimated that due to Omicron the cases will increase much more.
At the same time, he clarified that if the number of cases increases dramatically, a part of them will be taken to the hospital. “Hospitalizations mainly concern people over 60 years old. “The situation is particularly worrying for those who have not been vaccinated or those who have been vaccinated with 1 dose,” he said.
Finally, regarding the measures, the professor said that the health professionals, seeing the situation in the NSS, suggest a lockdown. Based on the sewage, he stressed that the measures are necessary.
