Post system is down for almost two hours

The portal and the internal systems of the Post Office were off the air on the morning of Thursday (23) for almost two hours, but the state-owned company says there has been no loss or sequestration of data.

Correios has returned to operating at almost full capacity, according to a company statement. The portal is already live.

“The technical teams that are working towards full normalization in the shortest time possible and there is no sign of loss of information or data sequestration”, he says.

According to the Correios’ office, the instability in the system will not affect the delivery service, as the operations’ logistics program was not affected.

The state-owned company also said that the possibility of a hacker attack was unlikely, since no signature was identified, as is usually the case in these cases. However, the technical area of the state-owned company is investigating the case.

A Telegram group allegedly belonging to Lapsus$, a hacker group that assumed responsibility for the attack on the Ministry of Health’s systems, announced at 2:13 this morning an attack against the Post Office.

The message also said that it would bring more information soon, which until 11:30 am had not happened.

On the last 10th, the Health systems were invaded and until today the Ministry works to fully restore them. Conecta SUS, the application responsible for issuing the vaccination certificate against Covid-19, remains unavailable.

At the time, users trying to access the site would find a message stating that the system data had been copied and deleted, and that it was in the hands of the attacking group.

“Contact us if you want the data back,” the message read.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Police. A preliminary analysis by the agency indicated that there was no data sequestration.

The main hypothesis of the authorities is that the criminal action was motivated by political activism on the internet, the so-called hacktivism.

In an official statement on the case, on December 10, the PF informed that an inquiry was launched “to determine the authorship and materiality of the crimes of invasion of a computer device, interruption or disturbance of computer, telematic or public utility information services and criminal association”.

“It was found that the Ministry of Health’s databases of systems were not encrypted by hackers,” the text stated.
