With the tourist flow from the Netherlands to Greece registering a 31% increase in 2022 compared to 2019

The dynamic participation of E.O.T. at the most important tourist event of the year in the Netherlands, the International Tourism Fair Vakantiebeurs 2023, in Utrecht (11-15/01/2023), impressed the Dutch public who had the opportunity to visit the first post-pandemic tourism fair in the country with free attendance, as emphasized in a relevant EOT announcement.

With the tourist flow from the Netherlands to Greece registering a 31% increase in 2022 compared to 2019 and Greece being the second most preferred destination after Spain, the Greek pavilion of 200 sq.m. it was a pole of attraction for both the public and Dutch tourism professionals.

This year’s particularly strengthened Greek participation was supported by a total of 15 EOT co-exhibitors coming from the Regions.

The particularly positive climate for our country was established from the first day in all the one-on-one meetings held with market professionals and tour operators, predicting for 2023 an even greater increase in incoming tourism from the Netherlands.

With the aim of the dynamic and qualitative promotion of our country in a year when almost all tourist markets returned dynamically to the exhibition, the E.O.T. Office of the Netherlands organized and coordinated the following actions:

• Participation in the theme routes with a view of the E.O.T. stand. in the kids passport which concerns the specially designed activities for children and families, which contributed to the increase in the number of visitors to the Greek pavilion and strengthened Greece as a family holiday destination. A contest with gifts from the co-exhibitors and a digital-graffiti photobooth as an activity aroused the interest of the visitors to the Greek stand.

• Series of daily presentations by representatives of the Greek co-exhibiting Regions and Municipalities entitled “Explore Greece” for the presentation of destinations through activities and experiences.

• View video of E.O.T. at all entrances to the Jaarbeurs exhibition space, so that the image of Greece is displayed everywhere and continuously, throughout the exhibition, targeting all visitors to the exhibition (audience, media, trade etc).

Recent research by Red Online Marketing on behalf of Vakantiebeurs showed that consumers are increasingly choosing their holidays based on the theme, such as: Adults only, all-inclusive or road trip. It is also impressive that the Dutch are searching online for all-inclusive holidays one and a half times more often than in previous years, while other popular search topics are road trips (+52%), booking adults-only holidays (+35%) and compared to 2019. Last-minute holidays have also become more popular (+43%). The most popular holiday destinations in terms of search in 2022 were Spain (1st place), Greece (2nd place) and Turkey ( 3rd place). Please note that the next exhibition in Utrecht will take place on January 10-14, 2024.
