Former Senator and Minister of Education Cristovam Buarque sent a message to friends in a WhatsApp group to support Jorge Paulo Lemann, one of the members of the trio of billionaires who are Americanas’ reference shareholders.
Amidst the crisis triggered at the retailer by the R$20 billion accounting scandal, the CVM (Securities and Exchange Commission) decided to investigate Lemann, Beto Sicupira and Marcel Telles.
In support of Lemann, the former minister says that Brazil needs more humanist businessmen like him, who defend education.
“I never did business with Jorge Paulo Lemann, I don’t know his business career, nor do I know his role in the crisis that Americanas is going through. But I do know that he is part of a rare group of global entrepreneurs who dedicate part of their fortunes and agendas to the education in the world”, wrote Buarque.
“I’ve been to some of the centers he created in universities around the world, I follow his investments and care for basic education in Brazil, I live with young leaders that he helped form to be educationalist politicians, and that’s why I give my testimony that Brazil needs more humanists like him”, says the message.
