What did he say about the possibility of a new benefits package after February?
“At the end of February we will be nearing the end of winter, so we will have an idea of how gas prices – which have been the big volatile factor – will have moved. At the same time, then we will see exactly how the 2022 budget will have progressed and we will know exactly what transferable fiscal space we have,” Deputy Finance Minister Theodoros Skylakakis said on SKAI radio, when asked to comment on the possibility of a new package of benefits after February.
Mr. Skylakakis estimated that in 2023 we will have a larger fiscal space than what the financial staff calculates.
He specifically stated that the government had calculated approximately 700 million euros for energy costs.
He noted that the issues that need to be addressed are accuracy while “the government has always helped in this area with whatever fiscal space it could find since 2019.”
He also mentioned that “a tsunami of investments” is being observed, making it known that today a new investment will be announced in Amyntaio, in the photovoltaic sector between PPC and RWE.
The deputy minister described the term “benefits” as inappropriate, noting that essentially what the government is doing is “restoring incomes based on fiscal capabilities.”
