Greater demand but not greater supply for petroleum products as the OPEC+ countries do not seem willing to increase production,

Fuel prices in our country are on the rise again, multiplying the headaches of the government’s financial staff who for a long time only had to worry about the accuracy on the shelf.

Over the past 10 days, the average price of unleaded has “stung” 6 cents from €1.85/litre on January 15 at €1.91.

In fact, in the Dodecanese and the Cyclades the average price has already exceeded €2, while in Evrytania, Kefalonia it is a breath away from this limit, at €1.98, followed by Rethymno and Lefkada with €1.97.

Of course it is no surprise that the week ended with Greece having the 4th highest unleaded price in Europe behind only Denmark, Finland and France.

Worryingly, market players estimate that the rise will continue as we approach February 5 when the European embargo on gasoline and diesel purchases from Moscow will come into effect.

At the same time and as China abandons the policy of zero cases, most analyzes speak of an increase in global demand given that Europe also seems that even … Syria will escape the recession based on the latest data.

Greater demand but not greater supply for petroleum products as the OPEC+ countries do not seem willing to increase production, which completes the recipe for …expected increases.

The international price of oil was found on January 4 at $77/barrel which is the second lowest price in the last 12 months.

On January 23rd it had reached $88 and for the last 3 days it has been moving in the area of $87.

However, if the estimates of the market people are not refuted, then the government may have to include some support for fuel in the pre-election package of interventions it is planning.

In general, Easter in the village with a fuel pass cannot be ruled out.

As for heating oil since the beginning of the year – and after the withdrawal of the discount from the refineries and the reduction of the state subsidy – it has increased by 16 cents, to €1.30/litre.

The vast majority took advantage of the ideal conditions created in December and filled the warehouses at very satisfactory prices.

Now nothing moves» say the gas stations.

And the few who buy, do so in very small quantities of 100 liters just enough to get through two or three days of more cold weather.
