Panel SA: Owner of Pizza Hut and KFC returns to hire after laying off 40% of employees

by

IMC (International Meal Company), which owns brands such as Frango Assado, Pizza Hut and KFC, which saw its turnover plummet in the first year of the pandemic, has returned to hire. In the last four months, there were 2,000, according to the company.

October and November registered a record 600 monthly hires, says marketing director Alexsandro Pinto. According to him, the company is close to recovering from the 2020 layoffs, when 40% of the staff were sent away.

The movement is related to the advance in sales in the last three months, says Pinto.

“The year was a roller coaster. In January and February a recovery was expected, in a moment of optimism, and it was a bath in cold water with a new peak [da pandemia] in March and April. As of August, the company felt more confident and decided to accelerate the expansion movement,” he says.

In October, a Frango Assado unit was opened after eight years without brand openings, and, in December, Pizza Hut arrived at the 250th store in Brazil. For 2022, Pinto says the sentiment is one of cautious optimism.

In 2020, IMC had a loss of R$ 473.6 million, and net income was 28% below that registered in the previous year. The company closed the third quarter of 2021 with revenue of R$ 540.4 million — an increase of 80% compared to the same period in 2020 and 27% compared to 2019, says the company.
