Panel SA: 99 challenges mayor of São Paulo and announces motorcycle taxi service

by

Application company 99 challenged the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, and decided to insist on offering trips by motorcycle with passengers. The motorcycle taxi service, which starts on Tuesday (31), will operate in the capitals of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The company says that the idea is to expand the service outside the central regions and in places where car drivers do not arrive, such as in the outskirts.

This Thursday (26), Ricardo Nunes told the Sheet that Uber, another company in the business, will suffer consequences if it disrespects a municipal decree that prohibits the transport of passengers on motorcycles. “I don’t want war with them [Uber]but if they want war, they will have it,” said the mayor.

Since announcing the offer of Uber Moto in the capital of São Paulo, the company has had the service immediately disallowed by the municipal management and has met with representatives of the public power to discuss the matter.

In a note, 99 states that the service is already used by more than 1 million people on its platform and that it offers insurance against accidents, both for motorcyclists and for passengers.

The company also says that a federal law ensures the transport of passengers by motorcycles and that the regulation of the service is exclusive to the Union. In this case, the municipalities could not prohibit the activity.
