The anxiety for the ominous immediate future, as it seems to be shaping, is expressed by the small and medium professionals and craftsmen of the technical branches, after the publication of the data by the Hellenic Statistical Authority, for the 7.1% increase of the Price Index of Construction Materials for New Residential Buildings , in the month of November 2021, compared to the index of November 2020, as well as an increase of 0.9% in the month of November 2021, compared to October of the same year.
In a statement, the NA Vice President of BEA, Costas Damigos, emphasizes:
“With the frantic rally of increases of materials and raw materials, the phenomenon is presented, the planned constructions, to go out of budget, but also that there is great difficulty in starting new ones. The result of this situation will undoubtedly have significant effects on the technical professions and the economy in general. “
The B.E.A. points out that it is impossible for small and micro-enterprises to respond to the new economic environment that has developed, mainly due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the world market. This phenomenon, which is observed at pan-European level, does not seem to be escalating, but on the contrary is intensifying.
Despite the fact that the State has been asked to set revision rates to cover the significant changes and increases that have occurred in the prices of basic materials, no action has been taken other than the recognition of the problem.
The Athens Chamber of Crafts is once again sounding the alarm bell for the viability of small and medium-sized professionals and craftsmen, but also for the risk of losing hundreds of jobs.
