Georgiadis: The Market Pass platform opens in ten days

by

Next week the ministerial decision on the signs in the supermarkets – A household basket with options for Lent and Easter will follow.

Next week, the ministerial decision will be ready for the price of a liter or kilo to be clearly visible on supermarket signs, while in about ten days it will be the market pass platform is also ready. This is what the Minister of Development and Investments, Adonis Georgiadis, said today in his statements, while he reiterated that the household basket, just as it was during the Christmas holidays, will also be followed now with options for Lent and Easter.

The minister, today, together with the Deputy Minister of Development and Investments Nikos Papathanasis, visited a supermarket where he noticed that the price per kilo or liter, which is written on the supermarket signs, is not easy to read due to the small font and clarified: “From next week a new ministerial decision is issued so that the consumer can see the price per unit and that no one can fool him by making the package smaller or bigger. We are solving this issue calmly, nicely and civilly.”

In the meantime, speaking at the First Program, the minister said about the “Household Basket” and the course of inflation: “The Household Basket has been absolutely stable in value for several weeks. Practically, the Basket has gone to prices around June 2022, that is, it has gone back about five months and has remained stable there.”

He added that: “according to the official data of Eurostat, Greece in January 2023 it had a drop in inflation, one of the biggest monthly falls across the European Union. We now have inflation of 7.2% from 7.6%, we are one unit below the European average. Regarding the December 2022 inflation for food, among the 27 countries Greece is 7th from the end. If our problem with accuracy was inherent, our problem, wouldn’t we be more accurate than others? Would we have less?”

“We are living in the era with the highest inflation in Europe since World War II,” he emphasized and added: “We import energy, we import food, we import raw materials, we import consumer goods, we buy more expensively what we import because there is inflation and this more expensive is also measured for us in inflation. That’s why we have precision. The citizen in the supermarket has every right to complain, because what the citizen ultimately sees is accuracy. That’s why we made the “Household Basket”, for the citizen who really has a financial problem. Whoever buys from the cart earns a lot of money. This was also certified by EKPA with its official study for November and from what I learn they are also preparing a study for December when the numbers are even more impressive.”

Regarding whether the Basket will be expanded in view of Lent and Easter, he said that “the basket should follow our consumption habits, as it did at Christmas. AWell, we have Lent, we have Easter, it will follow normally.”

Finally, about the Market pass he said: “In about ten days we will be ready. People will apply, get their electronic card and make their purchases.”
