Mapping is a new tool added to the competences of the Competition Commission

The Competition Commission decided to conduct a mapping of the conditions of competition in the markets of five essential products by its decision, on February 8, 2023.

particularly

  1. laundry detergents,
  2. fresh whole milk,
  3. baby milk,
  4. cheese and
  5. cow’s yogurt.

Mapping is a new tool added to the responsibilities of the EA, with the provisions of Law 4886/2022 (article 14 par. 2 para. s) and allows it to study the conditions of competition in any market or sector of the economy, when this required for the effective exercise of its powers.

Mapping starts immediately with the decision of the Competition Committee and is carried out by the General Directorate of Competition, possibly in collaboration with special experts from academia and the team of the Chief Technology Officer of the Competition Committee.

Purpose of the Mapping to the specific products is to deepen the research of the EA, which started in a range of products following the establishment of a supermarket task force with the sectoral survey on consumer staples, published in March 2021, taking into account the latest developments in the market due to the significant price increase in certain product categories, change consumer habits, and measures adopted by the State.
