The environmental study of the state of São Paulo, which details the areas sensitive to climate change by region, a work that had been developed in the last decade, has already started to be made available to municipalities, according to the environment secretary of São Paulo, Marcos Penido.
He claims that zoning can guide initiatives to try to increase the resistance of municipalities to climate change.
“By knowing all the characteristics and weaknesses, it is possible to make the necessary adaptations much better to fight areas of floods, landslides, water scarcity, improve plant protection”, says Penido.
The document segments and classifies the state’s territory by criteria such as resilience to climate change, water security, biodiversity conservation and reduction of regional inequalities.
In the water security guideline, for example, most administrative regions present results above the metropolitan region of São Paulo.
In the protection of biodiversity, some locations in the north of the state have worse results. One of the points of attention is the presence of low levels of resilience to climate change and water security in areas of the metropolitan regions of São Paulo and in the Santos area.
