Share prices came under intense pressure in the final session of the week, amid worsening global sentiment, with banking stocks being targeted by sellers.

Concerns about the financial situation of the American bank Silicon Valley Bank, one of the most important lenders to start-up companies, lead to a significant decline in banking stocks worldwide.

O General Price Index closed at 1,056.26 points, noting down 2.49%.

Intra-sessionally it recorded a lower price at 1,053.23 points (-2.77%).

On a weekly basis, the main stock market index recorded a drop of 5.24%, after an eleven-week rise and a total gain of 22.13%, while since the beginning of the year it is up 13.60%.

The total market capitalization decreased by 1.67 billion euros compared to the previous session.

The value of the transactions amounted to 113.76 million euros, while 49,552,587 shares were traded.

The large-cap index fell 2.85%, while the mid-cap index fell 1.39%.

Of the high capitalization shares, the shares of OPAP (+1.52%) and Aegean Airlines (+0.28%) recorded an increase.

On the contrary, the largest decline was recorded by the shares of Alpha Bank (-6.18%), National Bank (-5.94%), Eurobank (-5.32%), Piraeus (-4.62%) and Motor Oil (-3.50%).

From the individual indices, the Health (+2.71%) and Travel (+1.41%) indices rose, while the biggest losses were recorded by the Banking (-5.61%) and Oil (- 2.77%).

The largest volume of transactions was presented by Alpha Bank and Eurobank, trading 13,934,432 and 9,440,802 shares, respectively.

The highest value of transactions was recorded by Alpha Bank with 16.79 million euros and Piraeus with 14.79 million euros.

14 stocks moved up, 89 fell and 11 remained stable.

The biggest increase was recorded by the shares: Akritas +18.59% and Reds +2.77%.

The biggest drop was registered by the shares: Frigoglass -11.63% and Minerva -9.71%.
