Initiatives to improve consumer protection were announced by the leadership of the Ministry of Development and Investments at the conference on “Consumer protection: the right information is a benefit for businesses and consumers” organized today by the BSE.

Speaking at the conference, the Minister of Development and Investments Adonis Georgiadis focused on the practical guide for the presentation of the offers, discounts and other promotional actions that the ministry put in consultation and is, as he said, an easy-to-use guide for both businesses and consumers. “Consumer protection is a key axis of the ministry’s policy as it contributes to the promotion of healthy competition and the strengthening of trust between businesses and consumers“, he emphasized.

Secretary General of Commerce Sotiris Anagnostopoulos announced interventions to improve pre-contractual consumer information in e-commerce and financial services as well as new digital tools that will give consumers the ability to compare. He also highlighted the legislative initiatives that have been undertaken such as for unfair commercial practices, for the possibility of consumer organizations to bring representative actions claiming compensation for violations of consumer legislation, for dealing with unfair profiteering, for the household basket, etc.

The vice-president of SEV, president of the Food Industries Association and head of the consumer working group Ioannis Giotis, said that the business/consumer relationship of trust is based on the correct information of all involved.

In this context, after the practical guide for communicating with the consumer in e-commerce, SEBT proceeds to create an illustrated guide for communicating offers and price reductions through any campaign.
