Amazon and Stellantis Partner on Electric Cars and Vans

by

Amazon and Stellantis announced this Wednesday (5) a partnership in the development of vehicles with Amazon software on the panels and for the deployment of Stellantis electric vans in the retailer’s logistics network.

The deals expand Amazon’s efforts to gain a bigger foothold in the transportation industry and could help Stellantis bridge the gap between it and Tesla in developing vehicles with sophisticated, software-based infotainment features that are connected to the internet. .

Amazon and Stellantis said they will work together to develop software for the “digital cockpit” entertainment systems of Stellantis vehicles that will begin launching in 2024. Stellantis said it will use Amazon’s Alexa technology for the voice-controlled features,” navigation, vehicle maintenance, e-commerce marketplaces and payment services”.

As part of the partnership, Stellantis will use Amazon as its “preferred cloud computing provider”, which is required for vehicle connectivity.

In a separate agreement, Stellantis said that Amazon will be the first customer for the company’s new lineup of electric vans, which is scheduled to launch in 2023. The companies said they plan to put thousands of units of the model into service every year.

Amazon has an earlier deal with startup Rivian Automotive to buy up to 100,000 electric vans.
