A survey carried out by the National Council of Secretaries of Administration (Consad) shows that only 14% of women occupy positions of coordination, directorship, management and supervision in the public sector. Among men, the rate rises to 16.9%.

The difference does not follow the qualification level. Among female workers, 91.7% have higher education, against 84.9% of men. Conducted in partnership with the Brazilian Institute of Education in Public Management (Ibegesp), the study interviewed 34,192 public sector workers at all levels of government.

FORGET

“Encouraging and maintaining well-qualified staff must be a priority of public management, and only with the mapping of these disparities will we be able to overcome the inequality that still persists in the public sector”, says the president of Consad, Fabricio Marques dos Santos.

ON THE AGENDA

The role of public servants and inequalities in the public service will be themes of the next Consad Congress, which will be held in March this year, in Brasília.
