The unemployment rate in the country was 10.9% in March this year, compared to 12.7% in March 2022 and the revised downwards of 11.3% in February 2023.

According to the ELSTAT labor force survey, the unemployed amounted to 508,744 people, marking a decrease of 100,395 people compared to March 2022 (16.5%) and by 14,096 people compared to February 2023 (2.7%).

The unemployment rate for women rose to 14.5% from 16.8% in March 2022 and for men to 7.8% from 9.4%.

By large age groups, in the 15-24 year old group the unemployment rate was 24.2% from 28.9% and in the 25-74 age group at 10.2% from 11.9%.

The employed amounted to 4,166,819 people, marking a decrease of 2,694 people compared to March 2022 (0.1%) and an increase of 59,417 people compared to February 2023 (1.4%).

While people under 75 not in the labor force, or “people outside the labor force” (those not working or looking for work), reached 3,133,019 people, an increase of 73,815 people compared to March 2022 (2.4%) and a decrease of 47,692 people compared to February 2023 (1.5%).
