The owner of the Petrópolis brewery, Walter Faria, received judicial authorization to leave the country. The businessman was one of the main targets of Lava Jato, in 2019, accused of laundering money for Odebrecht through foreign accounts and electoral donations.
In response to a request for habeas corpus, the minister of the STJ Humberto Martins on Tuesday (11) revoked the precautionary measure that prohibited Faria from leaving the national territory.
To travel, the entrepreneur will have to present the tickets, with the round trip date, place of accommodation and form of communication.
Walter Faria turned himself in to the Federal Police in Curitiba in August 2019, after being on the run for five days. Considered one of the richest men in Brazil, the businessman used an account in Switzerland to intermediate the transfer of almost US$ 3.7 million in bribes related to contracts involving two Petrobras drillships, according to investigations. The action is suspended by decision of Minister Ricardo Lewandowski.
Vanuê Faria, businessman and nephew of Walter Faria, is also free to leave Brazil. It was the revocation of his injunction that motivated the habeas corpus of the owner of Grupo Petrópolis.
