“It has been filed here for a month. If the text had been approved, we would have received objections from Brussels and the markets would already be worried about the course of the country” said Mr. Staikouras
The stability program was submitted a month ago and is the result of the hard and methodical work of the previous leadership of the Ministry of Finance and its executives, said the former Minister of Finance, Christos Staikouras, speaking on the show Kalimera on SKAI.
Responding to his criticism Alexis Tsipras commented: “I start with the self-evident, if the text had been approved, we would have received objections from Brussels and the markets would have already worried about the course of the country, they would have started pricing the country more expensively, while now the opposite is happening, we are borrowing cheaper”.
Mr. Staikouras added: “The prudent economic policy of the previous government has been evaluated and the investment level that comes immediately after the creation of the new ND government has been discounted.”
Analyzing every point of the criticism made by SYRIZA, the former finance minister presented everything included in the stability program, underlining the implementation of the commitments of the Mitsotakis government.
He added that the prudent fiscal policy has strengthened incomes, which – as he said – must be strengthened more and faster and converge with the European average.
Mr. Staikouras underlined that the previous government targeted the lower economic strata and added that you use the revenue and return it to the society, you do not loot the society with taxes as Mr. Tsipras did.
Concluding, Mr. Staikouras noted that these are the possibilities of the Greek economy: “if we had more possibilities, wouldn’t the government want to help society more?” he said and added that “we have proven that we implement our commitments and achieve better results than the targets and return a dividend to society in a fair way”.
