Panel SA: Restaurants begin to require proof of vaccination in São Paulo

The capital’s bar and restaurant sector is running to try to avoid the reactivation of service restrictions imposed at various times since the beginning of the pandemic.

One of the measures adopted in recent days is the requirement of proof of vaccination. The vaccination passport was even announced in São Paulo, but it became optional in the capital. In cities in the Northeast region, the requirement led to “tremendous confusion”, said Leandro Menezes, from Abrasel (association of bars and restaurants) in Bahia.

In São Paulo, Cuia Café, a restaurant owned by chef Bel Coelho in the center of the capital, began to require the presentation of proof of vaccination with two doses on Saturday (15).

At Mescla, by chef Checho Gonzales, the requirement also came into effect on Saturday. Through the restaurant’s profile on Instagram, he said that the voucher could be on paper or through the Connect SUS app, from the Ministry of Health.

“Our class has been very affected in these two years of the pandemic, we need to take care of ourselves and take care of our customers”, said Gonzales, on Instagram.

Those who were vaccinated in the city of São Paulo can also issue their passports on e-saude, an application provided by the capital’s public service network.

Borgo Mooca, in the neighborhood of the same name on the east side of the capital, announced the decision on Instagram. The restaurant’s management said that proof is now required to protect “our family, the families of our employees, within the current scenario.”

To enter the establishment, the customer will need to demonstrate that they have at least two doses of vaccine. The same was announced by Bar dos Arcos, at Theatro Municipal, in Ramos de Azevedo square, downtown. The Bocada’s pizzeria, with units in Barra Funda and Vila Madalena, started demanding proof of payment on Friday (14).
