World Economic Forum to be held in Davos in May

by

The World Economic Forum has a new date: it will be from the 22nd to the 26th of May in Davos, Switzerland. The meeting, traditionally held in January, was scheduled to take place from the 17th to the 21st of January, but was suspended due to the advancement of the omicron variant – virtual sessions take place throughout this week.

The first face-to-face meeting of the forum since the beginning of the pandemic will be under the theme “Working together, restoring trust”.

“After all the virtual meetings of the last two years, leaders of politics, business and civil society must meet in person again. We need to establish the atmosphere of trust that is truly necessary to accelerate collaborative action and face the multiple challenges we face. “, said Klaus Schwab, founder and chief executive of the forum.

The last face-to-face meeting of the forum was in January 2020, months before countries around the world established social distancing policies to control the coronavirus pandemic.

At the end of December, the face-to-face meeting was postponed for the third time. The May 2021 event was canceled due to “tragic circumstances unfolding in all geographies”, according to a statement at the time. It would be the first meeting outside Europe, in Singapore.

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) did not participate in the virtual meetings – the last one he was in was in person, in 2020.

This Friday (21), the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, said in a virtual panel of the forum that all the programs adopted by Brazil to face the effects of the pandemic were successful.

“We are ready to take off again. All our programs [para lidar com a pandemia] were successful, that of job preservation, credit lines, direct income transfers. And we are ready to vaccinate en masse, as long as you continue to produce vaccines and we produce them here,” he said.
