The recent changes in the look of the M&Ms chocolate mascots provoked criticism of the brand in the social networks In the USA. The characters of the Mars brand, on the scene since 1954, will get new shoes and softer colors.
The brown one gets glasses and heels. The green is now wearing sneakers to replace the 1980s-style high-top white boots. The changes will be accompanied by messages of inclusion and gender balance in advertising campaigns, according to Jane Hwang, vice president of global marketing at Mars Wrigley.
A part of consumers, however, felt that the visual overhaul is not enough to convey a message of diversity.
