The governor of AADE, G. Pitsilis, confirmed the government’s optimism for increased tax revenues from sharing platforms, speaking in the context of the drafting of the bill on digital platforms by the competent parliamentary committee.

Mr. Pitsilis expressed the estimate that the projected revenues from the sharing economy (Booking, Airbnb, etc.) may reach 700 million euros, based on the current picture of the course of the relevant revenues, basing his forecast on the data of first seven months of 2023, which show an increase in declared incomes by 30% compared to the corresponding period last year.

Specifically, from 268 million euros, the declared incomes reached 347 million euros.

If the same image continues, we may even exceed 700 million euros, said the AADE commander. He pointed out that from the 60 million euros that these platforms declared as income in 2017, they reached 540 million euros in 2022, speaking of a spectacular increase.

“The data presented by Mr. Pitsilis were even more optimistic than the ones I mentioned yesterday,” commented the present Deputy Minister of National Economy & Finances H. Theocharis.

I talked about 600 million euros while Mr. Pitsilis even talked about 700 million euros which we may touch, said Mr. Theoharis.

It is noted that the bill entitled “Incorporation of Council Directive (EU) 2021/514 of 22 March 2021 amending Directive 2011/16/EU on administrative cooperation in the field of taxation and other provisions on the tax procedure, the preparation of the state budget and the Public Private Property Utilization Fund” was accepted in principle by the members of the Finance Committee of the Parliament, with the parliamentarians of the ND and PASOK-KA agreeing and the parliamentarians of the other parties reserving to be placed in the plenary session next week.
