The Bitcoin Market promotes this Wednesday (26) the launch of its virtual space for trading NFTs, an acronym for non-fungible token. The premiere will be marked by the auction of works of art whose profits will be partially reverted to a project to protect the territory of the Paiter Suruí indigenous people, in the Amazon.
Token, in computer language, is a technology that creates codes by sequencing symbols (such as letters, for example). This allows you to create a kind of password and link it to an electronic file, like a digital photograph of a painting.
Encoding guarantees the authenticity of a work sold over the internet. This makes a digital artwork unique and therefore potentially valuable. It becomes a crypto asset as it adopts the principle of cryptography. It is the same logic used by the technology of chaining code blocks (blockchain) that guarantees the security of virtual currencies.
Among the main cryptocurrency brokers operating in the country, Mercado Bitcoin pursues two goals with the project called Impact NFTs: expanding the portfolio of assets offered to its clients and kick-starting a corporate program to support sustainable development and causes. social programs aimed at populations in situations of vulnerability.
The program seeks to reinforce the company’s positioning in ESG shares, an acronym for good environmental, social and governance practices. In response to increasing public awareness of issues such as the climate emergency and inequality, the adoption of these practices has been gaining ground among business strategies.
“NFTs are a reality and our intention was to bring something different. The launch of Impact NFTs is the ideal project”, says Fabricio Tota, director of new business at the company. “This is the first of many urgent causes in our country that will be covered in this project”, he says.
The struggle of the Paiter Suruí community against the invasion of their territory, located between the states of Rondônia and Mato Grosso, gained international notoriety with the participation of Txai Suruí at COP26, the climate conference held last year in Glasgow, Scotland. The 24-year-old made history by speaking, in English, at the opening of the event.
The law student and indigenous activist was criticized by President Jair Bolsonaro, who accused her of attacking Brazil during the UN conference.
The goal of the conservation project underway in the territory is to preserve an area of 13 thousand hectares of forest. For this, 30 monitors travel the territory using GPS and photographic equipment to alert the authorities in case of irregularities. The amount raised in the auction will support this initiative.
Interested parties may bid to acquire works by artists such as Paula Klien, Denilson Baniwa, Moara Tupinambá, Walelasoepilemãn Suruí, Renata Tupinambá, Marcos Vinícius Rego Barbosa, Sallisa Rosa and Nelson Porto.
The auction takes place between January 26th and February 15th. There will be 12 works with minimum values ranging from R$ 100 to R$ 5,000.
The works of the Bitcoin Market project will be auctioned in partnership with the crypto-art platform Tropix. Up to 95.5% of the gains will be reverted to the project for the management and territorial surveillance of the Paiter Suruí indigenous people.
