Bank stocks came under strong pressure, despite the barrage of upgrades from rating agencies and positive recommendations from foreign investment houses received by Greek banks. After the upgrades from Moody΄s and Fitch, today the investment houses JP Morgan and Citigroup gave a new “vote” of confidence, stressing that the sell off in the banking sector is unjustified, as their profitability is durable and their valuations are attractive and at a discount compared to the shares of European banks.
The General Price Index closed at 1,200.31 points, down 2.24%.
Intra-sessionally it has recorded a higher price at 1,237.31 units (+0.78%) and a lower price at 1,197.45 units (-2.47%).
The value of the transactions amounted to 131.10 million euros, while 35,227,716 shares were traded.
The large-cap index fell 2.66%, while the mid-cap index fell 1.13%.
Of the high capitalization shares, the shares of PPA (+0.71%), Sarantis (+0.53%), Coca Cola HBC (+0.23%) and Autohellas (+0. 16%).
On the contrary, the biggest fall was recorded by the shares of Piraeus (-6.12%), Aegan (-5.05%), Jumbo (-5.05%), Mytileneos (-4.40%), Alpha Bank (-4.36%) and Viohalco (-4.00%).
Of the individual indices, only the Food (+0.20%) index saw an increase, while the biggest losses were recorded by the Personal Products (-4.61%) and Bank indices.
The largest volume of transactions was presented by Alpha Bank and Eurobank, trading 9,362,139 and 8,283,303 shares, respectively.
The highest transaction value was recorded by Piraeus with 18.48 million euros and National with 16.40 million euros.
18 stocks moved up, 89 fell and 13 remained stable.
The biggest increase was recorded by the shares: Karelias +5.36% and Chaidemenos +5.08%.
The biggest drop was recorded by the shares: Mermeren -13.62% and MIG -11.83%.
