The vision and the overall planning for the big renovation in Elliniko, but also the projects that will be completed by 2025, were presented today by Lamda Development. This is the third online presentation of the company in order to inform the public about this emblematic project that will transform the old airport into a city of the future and a global landmark.
“Elliniko has started and by 2025 a large part of it will be ready, so that all citizens can experience it and feel proud. An area that today is difficult to access and cut off from the urban fabric will be transformed in the coming years, exclusively with private funding, into a modern green city that we can all visit and enjoy. “Elliniko is the first area in Greece that will be developed from the beginning as a smart city, with advanced infrastructure and innovative technologies, while it was designed to be environmentally sustainable and resistant to climate change”, said, during the presentation, the CEO of Lamda Development, Mr. Odysseas Athanassiou.

The dominance of green and open spaces, the access to modern infrastructures that include schools, sports facilities, health and welfare services but also places of entertainment and recreation, the adoption of strict principles of environmental planning, but also the connection with the surrounding areas so that the Greek It is easily accessible by everyone, wherever they are in the basin, they are basic principles of our design “, pointed out the Chief Planning & Construction Officer, Mr. Dimitris Zontanos.
Infrastructure projects over 500 million euros for the benefit of neighboring areas
In the context of the creation of a modern city that will be friendly to the environment and the citizens, Lamda Development plans and will fully finance a series of infrastructure projects of public benefit, which will serve the residents of Elliniko and the neighboring areas.
Green spaces – Infrastructures for sports, culture
As mentioned, the protection of the environment and the creation of green spaces is a priority in the overall design of the project. More than 70% of the total area of 6.2 million sq.m., will be covered by parks, lakes, gardens, common and outdoor areas of activity, while in residential areas the common and public areas will exceed 50%.
The greenest development of the project is the Park of Elliniko, part of which will be completed by 2025, will cover over 2 million square meters, being one of the largest coastal parks in the world, and will be open to the public . The park has been designed with the biodiversity of the area in mind and, through advanced technological solutions, will fully cover its needs for irrigation and electricity.
Inside the Park, as announced, a state-of-the-art Sports Center will be created, which will be open to all residents of Attica, while it will have the opportunity to host important sports events. The center has facilities for athletics, swimming, football and gymnastics, a field for throwing sports, but also an indoor gym, hostels for hosting athletes and academies for football, basketball, tennis, beach volleyball and instrumental gymnastics.
The emergence of the coastal front as a global destination
The design of Lamda Development for the regeneration of the coastal zone of Elliniko aims to highlight the unique natural beauty, but also the important prospects for the Athenian Riviera to become a top tourist destination worldwide, for the whole year.
Elliniko started – The planning of the projects
The projects for the regeneration of Elliniko have started and are proceeding with the highest standards internationally, in all their stages of development:
• The studies for the Park and the sports facilities have already started.
• In 2022, work begins on the new Displacement Association for the Disabled, a complex of 11,000 sq.m., where four care associations for the disabled will be co-located. The upgrade works of the marina of Agios Kosmas and the beach will also begin, as well as the construction of the Marina Tower.
• In 2023, the construction of Marina Galleria and the seaside settlement of houses and complexes in front of the Park is planned to begin. It is also planned to start the works for the commercial and entertainment complex on Vouliagmeni Avenue, as well as for the mixed use tower in the same area.
Lamda Development’s vision in the coming years is to deliver to the citizens a city of the future, where they will want to live, work and visit, it was pointed out during the presentation.
