Citizens are required to pay the 2022 traffic tax by February 28. As announced by the Ministry of Finance, there will be no new extension for the 2022 traffic tax and the amounts must be repaid. by the end of the month.
The road tax has been “raised” since November 20, 2021 on the electronic platform myCAR, of the Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE). Through this platform, vehicle owners have the opportunity to:
-To put their vehicle in digital immobility / traffic, by digitally submitting its license plates, without having to visit the competent Tax Office.
-To download the notice for traffic fees and to receive a certificate of non-debt of traffic fees.
-To remove the immobility of their vehicle and pay traffic fees per month.
The only change this year is that the 2022 road tax will be paid in a different way. Specifically, vehicle owners should enter the myCar platform of AADE, using the Taxis codes and select the section “Vehicle registration fees”.
Then the option for the display of the notification will appear, which this year will also have a QR code (QR code), with which it will be possible to make a direct payment, through web banking.
It is reminded that those who do not pay the road tax on time, will be asked to pay their double value.
For credit card holders there is the possibility to pay the traffic fees in 12 interest-free monthly installments, which can be done through alternative digital networks of banks (such as web banking, mobile banking), the network of ELTA, as well as other alternative networks, such as through the network of more than 3,000 OPAP agencies, through the Wallet network service.
The amount of traffic fees
Regarding the amount of registration fees for older vehicles with registration until 30/10/2010, the fees are calculated based on the age and cubic capacity of the engine.
Particularly:
* from 22 to 1,230 euros for vehicles released up to 2000
* from 22 to 1,260 euros for vehicles launched from 2001 to 2005
* from 22 to 1,380 euros for vehicles released from 2006 to 2010.
-For cars licensed from 1 January 2011 the charges are calculated based on carbon dioxide emissions.
Who will pay zero fees
The τυ “lucky” are the owners of vehicles, which were registered after 01/01/2021, because these vehicles emit less than 122 grams of carbon dioxide emissions per kilometer and therefore the fees will be zero.
For passenger cars registered for the first time in an EU / EEA Member State from 1 January 2021 onwards, they will be calculated on the basis of CO2 emission values per kilometer in accordance with the World Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) as indicated in its license. vehicle.

Overdue payment
In any case, vehicle owners should be especially careful, as invalid payment of tolls incurs a fine, which is equal to 100% of the tolls due to the vehicle.
Specifically, the amount of the fine is:
-equal to the amount of the fees if the vehicle is a two-wheeler / tricycle or a passenger car
-equal to 50% of the fees if the vehicle is a passenger D.X.
-zero if the road tax is less than 30 euros.
What is provided for the submission of license plates
Those who do not wish to pay road taxes will have to submit license plates electronically through the special platform of AADE.
